Got Nut Milk?

Coming up in Texas it was programmed into us that unless we drink cow’s milk, we will not grow tall, our teeth would crack and fall out, and our bones would all break. Everyone I was ever exposed to as a child believed the same thing and drank copious vitamin D whole milk and ate sliced American cheese as well as bits off of the monster block of Velveeta drying out in the fridge.

The only other option was chocolate milk or buttermilk, as this was before the low-fat craze. Almost anytime I was offered milk, or it was an option with a meal I drank it, although as I became an adult, I became a fan of diet sodas and backed off of drinking dairy milk. I first learned how milk would create mucus in one’s throat and I was to avoid it before going on the air. I started as a DJ at 16 and was told to stick with water or warm tea before and during my on-air slot.

It wasn’t until just a few years ago I learned of soy milk and then almond, hemp, oat, rice, cashew, etc. milk all without keeping an animal lactating its entire life and then to slaughter. Thanks for your lifetime of service and now you get to die. No other animal on the planet drinks another’s milk. Bovine milk is naturally formulated to add hundreds of pounds to a calf in a few months time.

Today almond milk makes up sixty percent of all non-dairy milk sales and almost five percent of all milk sales. Seems as far back as medieval times almond milk was popular as it did not require cold storage and would outlast dairy milk.

Today most store-bought non-dairy milk are vitamin D fortified. One may also consider supplements and make sure K2 is taken with the D to ensure calcium does not end up in the arteries. Proper exposure to the sunshine and some mushrooms also bring D into us. Calcium in sufficient quantities can are in the following foods and dozens of others including sesame seeds, spinach, collards, backstrap molasses, kelp, tahini, broccoli, swiss chard, kale, brazil nuts, celery, almonds, papaya, flax seeds, and oranges.

Plant-based milk requires a simple process of soaking the nuts or other plant matter and then blending it and straining out all the moisture which is called milk. Peruse the internet to find plenty of recipes for every kind of plant-milk possible. They can be sweetened by simply adding a pitted date or three or flavored as you desire by adding a drop of vanilla or cacao and maple syrup.

For your health, for the animals, and for the flavor, try one or three. Do avoid buying the ones with Carrageenan, as it is a known carcinogen once in the human stomach. Note that some are sweetened, and others are not, also some are flavored, and I prefer unsweetened and unflavored.

Beautiful Beneficial Brussels Sprouts

The French brought them to Louisiana in the 18th century and the 1920’s they began to cultivate them in California and by the 1940’s their growth and Americas acceptance of them grew. Today the majority (80%) of their cultivation is for the frozen food market with harvest taking place between December and June.

I recently purchased my first whole stalk of the year at Trader Joe’s last week, and they were amazing. As a child, I could not stand them, and as I have aged, they have become more and more appealing and sit at the top of my faves list along with broccoli and cauliflower.

These I only purchase fresh and that leaves me without them for part of the year and that’s OK but when the stores don’t have them I am disappointed. They can put off an odor while roasting so be prepared to turn on the vent-a-hood.

Full of vitamin C and K along with B vitamins, essential minerals, and dietary fiber they are an excellent addition to any plate or diet. Part of the brassicas family like broccoli they contain sulforaphane which has anti-cancer properties and is another example of food that loves you back.

A nice Brussels sprout slaw can be made from them raw and delivers the most possible nutrition along with enzymes. Steaming, stir-frying or roasting are the preferred methods of cooking them.

As you can see by my photos roasted with a bit of oil and seasoning is my favorite. Once hot from the oven one may add a duck sauce or honey to a bowl with a bit of garlic chili paste, balsamic vinegar, or Sriracha to toss them in and served warm ensure there will be no leftovers.

Be sure and slice the larger ones in half or quarters so they cook more evenly. Roasted using only a bit of salt and pepper is fine too it just depends on what you and yours enjoy most.

Best Squash Soup Ever!

Sometimes things deserve to be re-blogged, and this very tasty recipe is one of them! With fall upon us and daylight savings coming to a close, pumpkins and squash are everywhere. A heavy fall crop, winter squash offers many variables, and I wanted to make sure you know how amazing it is not only in taste but also for your body.

Squashes history dates back over 10,000 years from an area between Guatemala and Mexico as a food source though originally it was just the seeds that were consumed as the flesh was thin and bitter. Christopher Columbus took them back to Europe where they began to cultivate them.

A couple of the greatest things about consuming winter squash is that it is full of antioxidants and is an anti-inflammatory food. Full of vitamins A, C, B6, Manganese, copper, potassium, B2, folate, K, Omega 3 fats, magnesium, and B3.

In addition to being a nutritional friend to our bodies winter squash also helps regulate blood sugar and insulin in addition to being an amazing source of fiber.

This is one of my favorite recipes that can be modified to fit your taste buds by just changing seasonings and it is such a hearty vegan recipe that you have to try it! Have an amazing weekend, share if you like, eat some squash soon and Be Well!

Autumn Hugs Hearty Squash Soup
• One large to medium butternut squash
• One acorn squash
• Two tablespoons coconut oil
• One white onion finely diced
• One teaspoon real salt
• One teaspoon white pepper
• One teaspoon ground nutmeg
• One teaspoon onion powder
• One teaspoon grounds ginger/garlic paste
• Seeds of 8 green and 4 black cardamom-ground
• 4 cups (1 large box) vegetable stock
• 2 cups soaked cashews (4 hours min)
• 2 cups of coconut water or water

Cut squashes in half, clean out seeds, brush flesh with coconut oil and sprinkle salt, pepper and nutmeg. Place face down on a sheet pan and bake in the oven for 60 minutes at 350. In a high-speed blender puree the soaked cashews and coconut water for several minutes, set aside. In a stock pot place remainder of coconut oil and onion, cook 5-7 minutes till translucent, then toss in other spices and ground cardamoms and allow to sizzle for up to a minute and then add vegetable stock.

Add cashew mix and scoop out and add the flesh of both squashes. Once complete use an immersion blender to break things down as smooth as you like it, but not completely. This recipe delivers a thick and hearty soup and unless you’re dead set on a perfectly smooth soup try it with the small chunks left in it. Once heated through ladle into bowls or mugs and top with freshly toasted pumpkin seeds and enjoy. This pot of soup serves several and if given an extra day for flavors to marry, all the better!

Get to know Dr. Linus Pauling

With the temperatures finally falling in North Texas well it seems like October now. The pink washing continues with Cancer awareness month rolling on and you deserve to know the truth that solutions to cancer exist just review my previous writings to learn much more.

Over the past one hundred years several thought leaders, Nobel Prize recipients, etc. have shared their views on the truths about cancer and the cancer industry. I would like to introduce you to one of these people who were intelligent beyond my means and to say was well-respected is an understatement.

Dr. Linus Pauling was the only person ever to receive two unshared Nobel Prizes for Chemistry (1954) and also for Peace (1962). Considered by his peers as one of the two greatest scientists of the twentieth century he is also considered the father of molecular biology.

He spent seventy years advancing science on many levels and within several areas including orthomolecular medicine, Vitamin C, genetics, molecular disease, physiology, electronegativity, and others. With the last thirty years of his life focused on peace activism and humanitarian issues and now for a few of the wise man’s quotes.

Cancer Solutions Exist

As October is cancer awareness month another year rolls by but the industry continues to perpetuate the untruths that say that non-toxic solutions for cancer do not exist and everyone’s only hope is to expose themselves to surgery, radiation, and/or chemotherapy. Whatever path one chooses is their business just know the following answers exist and be aware of the fear tactics.

As I mentioned two weeks ago, surgery, chemo, and radiation only temporarily suppress cancer; it will almost always return often more aggressive because the body never healed.

If you find it difficult or impossible to believe that non-toxic solutions already exist, then they have done their job well. Consider investigating the solutions listed and learn more for yourself and those you love.

No one will ever guarantee that a single solution will work every time but tens of thousands have found healing through these various means. The toughest part sometimes is to recall what we already know, and that is that the human body was made to heal itself, we just have to support it in accomplishing that.

Dr. Thomas Lodi, a true cancer specialist, speaks to the fact that our first step once diagnosed or sooner is to stop making cancer and work from there. An acidic diet filled with toxins in and on “food and drink” as well as being void of nutrition supports to create cancer along with exposure to external toxins.

External toxins may include nicotine intake, air fresheners, candles/incense, sunscreen, lotions/ potions, shampoo, hairspray, soap, fluoride, tattoo ink, antiperspirant/deodorant, perfumes/cologne, makeup, fabric softeners, amalgam fillings, root canals, various dust, and household cleaners.

Papa going to Pot!

Sometimes in life, we find ourselves on adventures we had not expected and my time with my father after a “terminal” diagnosis this past couple of weeks is no exception and by the way aren’t we all terminal?

My father who I haven’t seen even a bit tipsy or otherwise hollered down from upstairs one night recently “Who’s downstairs!” I confirmed it was me and the next words out of his mouth were ones I never thought I would hear “I need my weed!” I laughed out loud and immediately knew I would have to blog about it.

Dear old dad, a veteran of the Korean War who warned all his children long ago of the evils of drug use and how it was a gateway drug now, has embraced this safe and effective original medicine. He uses a Tootsie roll type of edible before bed to aid with sleep and ease leg pain through the night.

Grateful Colorado had enough sense to see the value of God’s Farmacy and allow people access to non-toxic solutions to aid with a myriad of ills. Unlike synthetic petroleum-based solutions, there has never been a single overdose or death attributed to the use of cannabis.

Tens of thousands of people die each month in America due to properly prescribed and taken pharmaceuticals as a side effect. Merck allowed over 50,000 people to die from using Vioxx before they took it off the market.

Suppression is Not Healing

Regarding cancer, please know this: The two things a person can ingest that turns on cancer growth and will best guarantee its success are refined sugars and dairy.

This week immediately after my father’s oncologists performed his best and unsuccessful fear based sales efforts of chemotherapy of which he would have earned a commission, someone from food services showed up with a milkshake for papa to consume. They add a powder protein to the other so it must be healthy no not really.

There is a complete disconnect between the cancer industry I have experienced thus far and real nutrition or healing. Remission is mostly a temporal suppression of the evidence of cancer.

Empowering the body to gain once again homeostasis along with creating the environment for the body to detoxify is considered healed. In every bite or sip we take, we are either nourishing or poisoning ourselves. There is much more to cover soon.

In the particular oncology hallway I visited several times this week, they advertise healing, but that is not the truth.

Scientists Bribed to Tell One Sweet Lie

I learned in the 80’s that one needed to avoid fats and cholesterol to avoid heart disease, cancer and the like. It turns out we have been lied to for fifty years because the sugar industry doesn’t want you to know that it is sugar and not fat that leads the charge in supporting disease.

In 1967 the bogus study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine falsely linking fat to heart disease. Even after the truth of data manipulation came out this week in JAMA they deny any wrongdoing, but of course.

Not surprising after watching Dr. Lustig speaks to these deadly facts in his recorded presentation titled Sugar the bitter truth found on YouTube. Dr. Lodi also speaks to the fact that cancer cells take 19 times more energy than regular cells to operate, and their desired fuels source is sugar.

What Is even crazier is that by them touting fat and not sugar as the culprit a whole new low-fat craze took place and guess what they replaced the fat with, sugar. This increase in the use of sugar by one-third, was known beforehand, and part of the reason for the lie.

Without skipping a beat the new Sugar Association that replaced the old Sugar Research Foundation responded with the “that was before our time” response this week.

They have held the same lies for years about sugar in sodas not aiding in the obesity epidemic. Sugar is what I refer to as America’s true gateway drug. Eight times more addictive than cocaine people will be slow to investigate it no matter how detrimental it is.

Food manufacturers like cigarette manufacturers are prone to manipulate data and outright lie to protect and grow their market share. One day perhaps everyone will know the truth and act accordingly. OK probably not, but just the same, people have the right to know the truths about anything edible they purchase.

Straying from meaty meals

This once very full-time carnivore has been fading meat out of my diet for years and for various reasons. Wanted to share my experience without the intention of telling anyone what they should do. However, I do hope you find something in it that serves you well, welcome.

For most of my life, I had consumed every manner of cow, pig, chicken, turkey or deer at every meal for over 40 years. I grew up in a culture like many of us where meat was the center of the meal all else were sides. “We are the top of the food chain, and besides we get all our protein from meat.” was the mantra.

My initial decline started twenty years ago when I dropped frog legs and Cornish hens forever from my plate since they still looked too much like what they were. With meat mostly coming in the form of clean packages I was able to avoid giving thought to its origins.

Fast forward to a few years ago and I had graduated to Meatless Mondays that started out as a single meatless meal once a week, and eventually, it became an all day thing. Add to this reading the China Study and watching Forks over knives and other like-minded documentaries and my thought process around meat and all food began to shift.

Two years ago after I reviewed Earthlings by Mr. Phoenix, I realized the conditions the critters live and die in were often very unpleasant, and it rattled my growing sensitivities. But I continued to consume chicken, turkey, pig, and cow only now every time I consumed them, I thought of them. I could not shake the growing awareness of these animals lives.

A year ago we got our first puppy, and my heart just expanded with feelings of love and appreciation for a dog. I begin to notice after a couple of months that Paisley’s rear legs are angled just like pigs, and I never notice that before on dogs

Seven months ago a trip to the zoo brought me to the point where I realized I could no longer eat cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, lambs, deer or goats. I have felt great about it, and those earlier conflicts are now gone.

Learning to compartmentalize animals seems a cultural thing. These animals over here on the right we love and care for, and we have laws to protect them from abuse or any harm whatsoever, but these on the other side, we shall eat them.

I have friends who have been vegetarian for decades, and I used to make fun of them, sorry about that. I no longer limit my beliefs around animals and food etc. and trusting the process seems to be where I now reside.
