Cha cha cha changes…

Sometimes when the right thing happens it almost doesn’t seem real. The folks at Pepsi-co, this week announced the departure of aspartame from their diet Pepsi products in the US. Seth Kaufman, vice-president of Pepsi, said: “Aspartame is the number one reason consumers are dropping diet soda.” and well they should I say! Aspartame has the most complaints of a product/ingredient ever at the FDA.

And unlike most situations when it comes to food manufacturers and America, this time the British are getting the raw deal with Pepsi-co keeping aspartame in their UK version of diet Pepsi. Normally the cheap and most offending ingredients are left in the US versions only. This is one in a growing list of small shifts, food manufacturers are beginning to take.

Chipotle Grill just yesterday announced all of their offerings are now GMO-free. Nestle recently announced their decision to remove all artificial colors and flavorings from their candies and several other manufacturers or food sellers are making changes based on pressure from their customers. Look for more shifts by the junk food sellers as we have I believe turned a corner on caring about what’s in our food and sharing those concerns with the powers that be.

So with the Pepsi products, only the diet Pepsi versions will have the aspartame removed, all other diet drinks they crank out like diet Mt Dew will still retain it. For Nestle, this won’t take all the GMO corn-based high fructose corn syrup out of their products, but it is a start. Chipotle will still be using beef and pork from animals fed GMO corn though they say they are working on it. Still easiest to avoid all the “stuff” by preparing real organic food at home.

In my book Nutritional Truths, I go over in detail the reasons why to avoid GMO’s, Aspartame and the ills of artificial colors and flavorings. I also cover dozens of other ingredients to avoid and soon enough the book will also be available on Kindle. Be kind to yourself & Be well!
